i got a 1991 toyota 4runner with auto locking hubs for the 4x4. it has a decent leak where the passenger side cv shaft meets the diff, and because of my auto locking hubs when i drive it turns the gears in the diff. i was curious if i could just remove both cv shafts(axles) and be able to drive it without damaging the hub bearings or any other component. if anyone knows the answer let me know please

 

You don't have auto hubs. You have Automatic Differential Disconnect, or ADD. Keep the cvs in, but put manual hubs on

This is a fairly common problem. Mine is leaking on both sides. Usually caused by a clogged differential breather. Make sure the breather isnt clogged, but most likely the damage is already done, and you'll need to replace the seals.
