I have a 1996 4Runner with frayed belts. The engine is a 5VZ FE. How do I loosen the belts? Which pulley? How many bolts?

Which belt are you trying to get off?

The alternator belt is loosened via the alternator. 2 Bolts

The PS Pump belt is loosened via the PS Pump, again 2 bolts.

The AC pump belt is loosened via the tensioner assy. One nut that you loosen, then the adjuster bolt you turn to loosen the pulley.

 

I need to remove all three. On the PS pump, I loosened two bolts but can't move the pump or pulley. Just stuck maybe, or did I loosen the wrong two bolts? Both bolts were in front of the engine behind the pulley.

 

if you post pics it might be easier to explain to you. belts are a pretty basic thing to do. do you have a book for it? the haynes manuals are very discriptive on things like that.

 

Thanks for the response. As it turns out, I found someone who knew how to do it. They weren't here in person, but they walked me through it. The new belts are on!!
