Well guys in the mist of my cab swap i have found something i hate,a rust hole... in my frame, but its small now. Its in the same spot both sides. right behind the front wheels on the inner side of the frame, the driver side is bigger than the passenger. I can barely stick one finger in it.*

My question is how should i go about repairing it, im gonna have the cab off soon so it will be accessed easier. Would i cut out the bad spot and weld in new metal. Or weld right over it? Or what. I mean i'd like to fix it now, before it becomes a bigger problem. I've seen and heard of many different ways. And perhaps you all know of a better way. i'm just wanting advice on what you guys think the best way is, because I wanna keep this truck....for a loooonnggg time!

Once you get the cab off are you taking the bed off as well??

Before you start go over the whole frame I use either a junk screw driver or a small hammer .There will be spots where it is not through yet but will be.

With a push from the screw driver or tap from the hammer.

Much easier to get it all at one time then keep going back and doing a little at a time.

how you repair it depends just how many more spots you find.

those little spots get it as clean as you can weld on a piece 1/8" plenty

your patch should be a few inches in all directions if possible.

Mine are always 4" tall by however long it needs to be.

I am in a habit of not running vertical welds on frames my ends are half round looks like a oval

Every one has a different approach as long as it gets the job done

The last truck that showed up here for a few rust spots turned into a major project.

Well i have looked pretty hard and hit it with the occasional hammer, nothing too thorough yet, but my frame looks really good except for there....so far. I won't be doing the welding, don't have the equipment or the know how.

I didn't plan on taking the bed off....only unless i found a reason too, was thinking wait til summer/spring and tidy up the rear frame and hit it with some por 15
