four wheel drive

I think my four wheel drive is trying to kick in when I am driving down the road! It makes a weird noise under the dash, then it clunks and the four wheel drive light flashes on for a second... does anyone know what is going on...

What year and transmission? How many miles? Did you just buy it or did this just start? I guess you have auto locking hubs?

I have a 94, Manuel tranny, it has 304,000 miles and as far as I know it is the original motor and tranny, I bought it about a month ago and it is starting to develop more problems as I drive it. And yes they are auto hubs... another thing I am having trouble with is my reverse light they have not worked since the day I bought it, I have check the light and they are still good, and my rear anti-lock brake light came on later that day I bought it.... but I think that is just a sencer... and it has an aftermarket alarm system..... I need help... give me your ideas of what it could be....

If your back up lights don`t work .

your 4 wheel drive enabled light comes on.

I would think the harness going to the transfer case and transmission has some damage causing wires to touch.

If you have a extra fuel pump in the engine compartment someone added it for some unknown reason.

Not sure how a bad ground in the fuel pump circuit could cause a clunking noise unless your hearing the Circuit opening relay drop out. Then pull back in.

I would think you have the ADD system not automatic hubs
