Fixing power mirrors
Alright, I know it's not a truck, but my 1982 celica's mirrors aren't working properly. I've got it taken apart, but am slightly failing to understand how it actually works. Any suggestions would help. Thanks.

My switch is broken in the middle, it only goes to the left. But even with that I can put my mirror all the way to the right and if I try to move it left it doesn't go, I can hear the motor but it doesn't move.

OK first problem is easy [sort of] toyota uses [or at least used to use] one kind of mirror switch across all models so you just need to get an early/mid 80's switch from any thing and install it. If I remember right the 84-88 trucks/runners used the same switch as the 82 celica so that is a place to start for that part.
The second problem sounds like the plastic gear teeth on the mirror are stripped this can happen if you [or some jerk vandal] push the mirror around on the mount instead of using the motor too many times. The only real fix for this is to replace the mirror. If the mirror still maintains position [does'nt flop around in the housing] you may be able to "help" the motor work by gently pressing down on the mirror surface in the direction you are trying to move it while using the motor to move it this sometimes helps but is at best a one or two time fix only so decide which position you like best and leave it there once you get it placed.
Sorry I can't offer any better solutions.
