And with duals one case can be 4.7 and the other one 2.28 for a super low almost 7 to 1 ratio.

Duals just give way more options. Sometimes 4.7 is to slow but 4hi is way to high. So the factory low range is nice to keep.
Hmm well it seems to me if you don't really need the super 7 to 1 ratio low (which I, and i'm sure lots of others on here don't need) than there is really no reason not to use the single 4.7 t-case over the dual cases.

Edit: missed that bit about the 4.7 low being too low, that's understandable.

But you can have 3 different low range option whenever you need them. You can literally shift between 2.28, 4.7, and 6.??. Come on,,,, thats pretty cool. More gears then a semi.

Yes reverse does kinda suck, duals do give more options but I think cost wise 4.7 single case is the way to go if you don't plan on duals in the future, if I get into a situation where my 4.7 is too slow and 4hi is to fast, I can always shift up all the way to fifth gear without any bogging and plenty of speed.

NO arguing there, plus the 2 shifters sticking up definitely adds to the "cool" factor. Ahh I want dual cases now!

That's a good point there too, there are 5 forward speeds to choose from. I keep forgetting that lol

But I think that is worth the $500 or so that you save with a single 4.7 case.

Ya and no driveline mods. The single case with 4.7 is awesome for the price.
Be neato if you could have a lower first and reverse so you could use 4hi on some of those more open trails. But now I'm just being picky. Low is low.

I guess it all depends on what your final plans on with your particular truck.

Yep, drove like that for over 2 years with 6 grand revs and it never went. I had a long block sitting waiting for it when it did go and never even got any worse.

I don't think any other motors could take the kind of abuse I threw at that thing on a daily basis much less a motor with a rod knock for over 7K miles.
