Engines that work best, or fit for swapping into the 84-85's
I'm finally picking up my first 85 Efi SFA. The engine in the truck needs repairing or replacing. My question is what am I better off with? What engines are direct bolt in swaps? I assume the chevy 350 small is since it's done so often. Are any of the later Toyota truck engines ? Like the 3vz or the 5vz? Or am I better off with a professionally rebuilt 22re? I remember seeing a thread on here a year and a bit ago about some place in Cali doing those ...
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks guys

Nothing is going to be straight bolt in other then the engine that came in the truck.
However, the 2.7L 3RZ motor will swap into a 22re equipped truck relatively easy.
You can even use your same 5speed trans as long as you use the 2.7-W59 trans bell housing.
Hit up the Marlin crawler forum, there is tons of info about that swap on that board.

like camo said it is really based on what the truck will be used for. Daily driving>? 4x4? will you need low end power or high end power.. Answer a few of those and then go from there
btw the 22re is a very reliable Bullet proof motor. I crawl thru the desert all day with a 22r 5 speed 4x4
