Engine Rebuild Kit

Hey everyone,
If I were to get my engine rebuilt by my mechanic friend, what kind of kit should I buy for him to do it with?
93 pickup 4x4 22re
My mechanic is going to have to pull the engine out (I think) because the oil pan has been resealed with gasket sealer and I'm leaking oil. Also there is some knocking once you get her up to about 3000 rpms. So I want him to take care of that as well.

So, I'm wondering what else I should do to the engine? I plan on owning this truck for a long time, so I might as well do a bunch of work while it's out.

Thanks for any input,

Send the engine to the machine shop and get it checked and if anything needs rehoned , align bored , shaved or bored get it done then order your Master rebuild kit from engnblder.com replace both oil and water pumps and head bolts. That's my .02

Olharleyman....on the same note, I have 2(yes 2) engines in need of TLC....92 22re and 88 3vze....each with blown head gaskets.....the 22re is driveable etc (it's mine since day 1 so I know all of it's quirks) but the 88 was bought in April with about 253k on it and it leaks oil from the valve covers.

I've been keeping tabs on both you and Superbleeder and your engine rebuilds.......I know it's not something I can't do but I don't want to hit a road-block and end up having it towed somewhere to have it unscrewed if I screw something up.

Besides the engnbldr kits (which i would fully intend to purchase when I am told WHAT it is I need) I would love if between you 2 guys and anybody else would give a "noobie" kind of step by step post for doing this kind of stuff. I have all the manuals I need. But still lack the confidence to do this. Based upon a recent problem of breaking a bolt inside the water neck (and having a neighbor drill in a helicoil to fix it) I am crazy nervous about starting something and truly screwing it up but good because I was trying to wing it or something.

Step1...open the hood......(ya know, kinda like that)
Searching yotatech is frustrating alot of the time trying to sort through unneccessary stuff........
maybe i could drag my truck to maryland to have you do it??????? Kidding.
