On a 22r, it is alot more complicated. There is a thread on here somewhere about it and will see if I can find it. I was going to try it on a 22r and wound up being more then I wanted to tie into. If you want to remove alot of the things, I would suggest going with a Webber carburator to get it done correctly.

You can get rid of all the vacuum lines except for the vacuum advance to the distributor. All smog equipment can go too. I personally convinced LCE to make a full desmog kit - it is now available on their website.

There is plenty of information on desmogging a 22R, you've just been searching the wrong forum section - you need to troll around in the Pre 84 section. I made a desmogging thread for the 22R. Check it out here:

Let me know if you have any problems or questions

Thanks! Very good writeup! I'm not looking to Get that in depth with it. For now I just Need to delete the egr so I can run my header. it didn't come with the egr hookup. And my factory manifold is shot. I will be switching to a weber and desmoging in the future.

Well, just to let you know, it takes no time to do. If somebody dropped their truck off at my house with all the block off plates, hardware and about 4 ft of new vacuum hose, I could have it done in less than 2 hours. Literally, the hardest part is getting up the courage to just start yanking every vacuum hose and everything that they are attached to.

Nah, it can be done with the factory Aisin carb, but the results are better with a weber.

There should be 3 plates: two for the air injection ports on the exhaust manifold and one for the EGR on the rear of the head on the intake side. There are several other plates need to do a full desmog. What header are you planning on getting?

All I did to my 93 22re is.. Unhook the pipe that runs around the back of the head from the pipe that hooks in to the exhaust manifold. I out a plate on that sealed it up good with a new gasket and some rtv for good measure. Then I put my header on. I wanted to leave everything there since its not a big stretch for my state of Wa. To go completely commie like Cali. And require a visual as well. That way at least I have the parts in good working order to hook it back up. BTY the header I hooked up was a NWOR tri y. Old header that I bought for my 85 but never had the chance to install. Really nice thick flange. I did loose some low end torque at the very bottom but I am 2 1/4 a the way back and an 83 afm for the air intake. I am in the middle of a head gasket at the moment but there are some pics in my build thread. Should be easy enough to find.
