E Brake Light

Oka, so I went 4Wheeling in my 92 Toy, on my friends property..and slammed down pretty hard in his mud pit that we dug out..and then went trailing somemore..Now my E brake light always comes on..even when The emergency brake isnt on..I will be driving and randomly it will pop up, and sometimes turn off but sure enough it comes back on.

Did I bend a brake line? And How could I fix this?

Thanks.

Two things that will make the ebrake light come on: The e-brake light-trip button is not pressed down. This can either be disconnected entirely or taped up so the button is pressed. This is located at the end of the e-brake shaft, under the dash.
Or
Brake fluid is low.

Yea just like Previous posts.

On these old toyotas the only thing that makes just the brake light come on is:

1 Low brake fluid in master cyl.

2 E-Brake engaged.

Red face

It could be possible you have enough mud and junk up between the fuel tank and the E-brake pivot arm it is not returning all the way.

I would check the fluid level and go from there.

The low voltage light is not coming on also telling you the alternator is full of mud???

Oka, cool..thanks..I'm hearing a knocking sound too..i got a couple of opinions from a couple mechanics saying that it is my idler pulley, cuz i replaced my T belt about 70K ago..its gnna cost me $600 for the Timing belt, water pump and idler pulley replacement..SO much for my New Tires lol , right now i have 235/75/R15 Winter Trax tires that do surprisingly well in the mudd..I wanted to get some 31x10.50 R15 BFG KM2s but i guess those will have to wait.

Getting, a 3 inch lift kit from my friend for $150 , and then SAS kit down the road..What do you guys think should i go SAS or Keep the IFS , and buy a wheeler truck already with a Straight axel (for the 1992 Toy)

Anyways more on the E brake, I dnt think the E brake uses brake fluid, my brake fluid is at the minimum, but I checked my e brake pivot arm and it seems to be going all the way back in. I caked it in WD-40 and played with it a little bit. still no dice. I noticed when I come to a stop. Sometimes it pops off, but when I press the gas it comes back on. No matter what. so Kind of frustrating. Seeing it pop on and off. on my dash.

FILL UP THE BRAKE FLUID! The light on your dash is not an "E-Brake" Light, it is a dummy light for when your fluid is low OR the e brake is on. When you brake and gas and it goes on and off is because the brake fluid is sloshing in the master cylinder. Go fill it up to the max line, than check your brake pads and shoes because most likely you need them and then you send us all a check for being right.

You're correct, the e-brake does not use brake fluid, it is cable actuated. As previous posters have said, the "brake light", not "e-brake light", comes on under two conditions:

a) low brake fluid
b) e-brake engagement or e-brake sensor is faulty.

Since you've stated your brake fluid is low, I highly suggest filling it up, otherwise your brakes WILL eventually fail to operate properly.

I am sorry, how did I offend you? By stating simply the facts that you have been told by 3 other people before me? Have you read an owner's manual? It should state right in there why your brake light would come on. Why would you think that it would not be the fluid level if you checked it and it was at the min. level. There is a minimum level for a reason.

yeah buddy even at the minimum level she'll throw the light, and there right. your shoes or pads will probably need replaced. since that's where your fluid is going. (in the cylinders)

i know how you feel James Woods. im a member on alot of forums but this one really makes me not respond to posts most of the time. lol. "grinds my gears" quite often.

not directed to the op but just other threads in general.

but yeah, go buy that 3 dollar pint of dot 3 brake fluid and just fill her about half way. if even that and then go drive it.

I'm guessing JDS1992 got mad because he read "DUMMY LIGHT" and thought it was directed specifically towards him. If you did take it personally don't, because its a common term that's often used amongst car and truck "enthusiast" (if you will). I'm no psychologist but that's how i understood the whole situation.....oh ya and this was happening to me too after my booster swap and i had plenty (or i thought) of brake fluid in the resivior, but all it took was about 1/2 inch below the "full" line to set the sensor off while applying the brakes and starting from a stop due to the fluid sloshing around.

I have the same issue with my 02 Tacoma. On until I come to a stop, off, then back on during acceleration. Fluid makes perfect sence.
