Wow! Double wow! I'm amazed they'll still do the HG on a 22 year old rig as a recall. Sure, go for it. You could part it out for more than $400 in parts it would seem.

For those of you that get a "Milk Cap" but no milky oil when you change the oil, it's not always a head gasket. I've gotten milk caps before... they can come from when your wife drives your truck and puts cheap gas in it! I always get fuel from Chevron or Shell; however, my wife...not so much... She was driving my 2005 Tundra for a bit while we were getting some harsh winter weather and I found out she was putting economy grade gas in my truck. When I went to change the oil I noticed that the cap was milky (I was freaking out!) but the oil out of the pan was normal (sigh of relief). I proceed to change it and started my science experiment. I would fill up with Shell or Chevron and check the cap when I went to refuel again...no milk cap. I would refill will economy grade (Wawa, Royal Farms, basically any convenience store no name fuel) and when I ran empty... MILK CAPS!

Apparently the ethanol in low grade fuels tends to be more apt to breaking down into water earlier than higher grade fuels causing steam in the combustion chamber which will rise and condense of the oil cap. Since my experiment, I have driven my truck over 15,000 miles with Chevron or Shell fuel and haven't had any milk caps since.

Moral of the story, don't use economy grade fuels!
...oh and NEVER let your wife borrow your truck!!! And this is exactly why she is never allowed in my '83

Has a decent dent in the bed and a decent dent in the door.... driver side is almost flawless....no back bumper; although "its against my religion" as mom would say....its an automatic

How far to the dealership? I would say you're a lucky guy for finding that deal! Hope all goes smooth.

I'm surprised the original owner never got a letter to get the recall done. Oh well lucky for you I guess. I would be willing to bet the dealership will ask you to replace some tune-up parts while they're in there (spark plugs or what not.. get at least a lil $ out of ya). I would assume you could negotiate a very reduced labor rate to have them throw on a new timing belt and water pump while they are already that far into the engine for the recall. Just an option, something to maybe ask about unless it has had these repairs recently or you wanna do the work yourself.

Congrats again!

Uh 35 miles ish.... over a mountain:/

And thanks i'm rather excited for it. Yeah probably not a bad idea on the tune up parts.... see if they can tell me any recent things that have been done when i pick it up....i know the timing belt had been done...least once.
