Difference between a prerunner and a regular tacoma

i know there is a 2.7 in my pre runnner and 2.4 in the regular taco...what are other difference?

Are we talking regular as in regular cab, regular trim, non-TRD, etc?

There were several trims to choose from...

no like what performance/suspension wise...i just don't understand what makes my truck a pre runner...

Yeah, the TRD prerunners came with the 3.4 V6, Bilstein shocks and a rear locking diff, but that was pretty much it.

Basically, the difference between the reg 2wd Tacoma and the prerunner Tacoma is the ride height.

Exactly. Essentially, they took 4wd running gear, ditched the transfer case, front differential and CV joints, and called it a "prerunner", since most actual prerunners are simply lifted 2wd trucks. (Saves on weight when you're prerunning)

So they sit higher than the reg. 2wd Tacomas, and share some of the suspension components of the 4wd Tacomas.

there is basically no difference now because inchworm has a kit that turns a prerunner into a 4wd taco but basically no t-case of proper front driveline

That's cool. Hadn't heard about that...

Does it stay IFS? Or do you have to swap it?
