Rust worse than I thought on recent 4Runner purchase

Just bought an 07 4Runner. It drives like a dream. But there is some concerning rust. Wanted to post some pictures and get your thoughts as to whether I just made a huge mistake buying this.

These are the worst pictures of it. Other parts aren’t as bad. Looks like the heat shield is about gone, but most everything else “feels”solid.

I will probably have it looked at by an expert, not sure if this would be a DIY or even fixable : (

That looks pretty scary. You might have some recourse if you bought from a dealer. Maybe even if you bought from private owner depending on your state? Good luck with your truck. I hope all works out ok.

not to sound like a jerk but did you look under that thing before you bought it?

look into the 4Runner frame recall, if it hasn't ended it has to be pretty close to being over

It comes down to your skills if it is Do it Yourself!!

Paying to get it done might get real expensive I hope you bought this real cheap.

Just curious how was this missed in the pre purchase inspection??

When looking at a new vehicle to me. I start at the bottom and look up
