Cruise Control Not Working

Cruise control does not work on my 84 Celica GT. I had the system tested and the mechanic thinks the switch (On the steering column) is working and that the module on the firewall is faulty. I have tried sourcing this part from the dealer and aftermarket. Basically parts are getting very scarce for this car and I cannot find it for sale.

Does anyone know where I can get the factory part, other than a junkyard and if not, can someone list a good website that specializes in cruise control stuff that I can get something aftermarket to work?

Check the cable coming out of the cruise control body. The cable sheathing breaks on those and won't allow the cruiser control actuator to pull the cable. Same thing happened on my 85 MR2 and cruise won't work.

Okay, so I checked the cable housing coming out of the CC Actuator and it was broken. There is about a 2 to 3 inch pice of gray plastic at the very end of the cable housing and that seems to be the only problem with the cable.

When I pull on the cable right where the actuator would pull on it, the cable activates the throttle like it should. My thought is that the actuator itself is bad. I called Toyota Parts and a new actuator is $689. That will be about my absolute last option and only if I probably win the Lotto.

That being said, does anyone have any idea if these CC Actuators can be opened up and repaired by say a good electronics shop or something? I am heading now to a junkyard that has 2 cars my year to see if they have any parts on them.

The 1985 Celica GTS at the salvage yard had the CC Actuator, but I installed it right there in the parking lot and after a road test, that one seemed not to work either. Although I think it is the actuator/vacuum transducer that is broken, it is possible the switch is faulty, I will double check that tomorrow. Note that the cable housing being broken does not affect the actual working of the cable on the throttle. It seems it should work even with the housing broken.

I am at the point where I will consider rigging in an aftermarket Cruise system. Does anyone have experience with aftermarket kits or know a good brand to look for?
