Could having the timing advanced too far cause OBD code 52?

I have this new to me '93 4Runner 3vze. Previous pilot had recently had the timing belt, water pump, and heads rebuilt. He said after the rebuild it has not ran right. Currently without having the timing as advanced as the dizzy will allow, it has no power. I set the timing at spec and it goes 0-20 in 60 secs and doesn't want to go any faster without a tailwind. With timing all the way advanced, it has as a guess 70% of potential power. Now the question is, would running it with the timing advanced so far cause a false OBD code 52 or is this not a possibility? I interpret the code as an interruption of communication between knock sensor and ECM and timing advance while is subject to the knock sensor would not be a cause of the code. Anyone else care to chime in?

What's a 52 again. o2 sensor? If so I believe those can go bad for a number of reasons. Too rich to long and the extra fuel can damage them. I believe they can (might) be clean(able). I know extra fuel will destroy a cat. Also what brand is the o2 sensor. Our rigs have trouble with Bosch parts sometimes just throwing out answers based on my guess that a code 52 is an o2 sensor. So I might be wrong. Or probably I am wrong.

52 is the knock sensor.

No, knocking does not cause code 52, it causes code 51. Code 52 is a whole other animal. You need to search the forums, many many threads about it.
