cheap power for a 1986 Toyota 4Runner

I'm looking for a couple ways to get more power out of my 1986 for runner with a 22r-e. But, I don't have a lot of money to spend on this project so it needs to be nothing or next to nothing in the way of cost. I have heard that small things like replacing the Air Filter with a K&N one can give the engine slightly more power. I'm look for ideas like that but anything will help. If anyone knows any tricks please let me know.

Don't waste your time with a k&n. From my research a cam and headers/exhaust 2.25 are the simplest and cheapest power mods and neither of those are very cheap. I would save for gears, I gained a lot of pep running 4.88s on 31s but lost some top speed.

Welcome to YT.

See, there's your issue. If you want power, you need to spend money. These arn't fast trucks.

You could try the "deckplate" mod. But dont expect anything major. Find a tips and tricks thread and read through that.

Other than keeping it in tune I would switch to synthetic trans fluid.

These trucks don't make a whole lot of HP so you want to transmit it as efficiently to the ground as possible.

Power to Weight ratio is EVERTHING so keep all unessary items at home.
