I've owned an 85 and 94 Hilux. I now own an '03 Tacoma 4x4 4-cyl with 108k. The CEL just came on. I know how to get the code in the pre-95 22RE, but I have no clue how to diagnose my new truck. And no, I have not yet bought the FSM.

Can anyone tell me how to get the problem codes(s)?

 

I assume since it is a Hilux that you aren't in the US or Canada?

Call some local auto parts stores, they might scan it for you. Autozone does this for free.

Otherwise you can find an OBDii reader on the internet. The cost of a simple reader will likely be less than getting it read at a dealer.
