Cat questions.

Cat questions.
Ok I have two totally noobish exhaust questions. (I'm more of an engine guy than exhaust)
1. I have a major exhaust leak right at the catalytic converter where the two flanges meet. Well I suppose it's more of a total disintegration of the gasket than an actual hole
Anyhow, how much will this affect my engine operation?
2. I have no emissions where I live, is there any reason I should keep the cat?
Thanks

Hey amped,
im not completely sure about this but i would assume having that leak would just give you more power. Haven't read up too much about 4runners yet but i think they are fairly restricted exhaust flow seeing how headers help alot with power. And if you have no emissions i wouldnt think there is any reason to keep the cat unless your an eco nut, i mean it just restricts flow and quiets the sound (and helps reduce emissions
). My cat is almost completely destroyed and the trucks just way louder than stock and from what i can tell it has gained power. i mean if you think about it less restriction means more power, you just dont want too little of restriction or you will be having problems with not enough pressure being built up and then you will have problems...but a leaking gasket wont do anything lol. Maybe someone else who knows a bit more about the 4runner can chime in about this... just trying to give ya my .02
