I am going to rebuild the carb on my 87, any pointers, do I want to use a rebuild kit or just have one handy?

Yes, you will need a rebuild kit. The kits come with all of the gaskets and seals that you will need to replace while doing the rebuild.

Do you have a Factory Repair Manual? There is a great section covering the disassembly and assembly of the carburetor.

Go slow, label parts and bag them, and take lots of pictures as you take things apart.

When I did my carburetor rebuild, I found that many of the screws in my carburetor were very tight and it was easy to strip the heads of the screws. Later I found out that the screws on the factory carburetor are NOT Phillips head screws. They are Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) cross-head screws that look very similar but have a different profile to the Phillips drive. It is easy to strip out the heads of JIS screws with a Phillips screwdriver.

I would not remove the jets unless you have a tool that fits into them snugly. I damaged one of my jets while using just a large flat-blade screwdriver while trying to remove it.

Thanks a lot Jake, yes I have a factory repair manual, thanks for the link as well, as far as these custom Phillips screws, can I buy the proper tool somewhere, or just use what I have and be careful?
