Adjusting the carb

Anybody a carb expert? I have the feeling I'm going to be pretty soon, but I'm not yet...
IF I find that my float level is too high, like maybe just above the level it should be in the sight glass, how do I adjust it? Or does that mean rebuild? Power valve? If I'm going that deep is it time for a rebuild? The FSM doesn't do all that great of a job with that stuff, is just says check & replace, but not much more.

Has anyone had luck finding a good rebuild kit for our trucks? NAPA doesn't carry a specific one, just the "most common" for Toyotas, whatever that means, and Toyota sells a kit with JUST gaskets for $79. If you want any of the other stuff that would normally come with a kit, you've got to pay for them separately. Because of that I may look into just replacing things individually, so if anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate it.

I got my rebuild kit from advanced for 30 bucks. it cam with all the gaskets new jets new washers and a complete choke rebuild. Pretty easy to do only took me about an hour to rebuild. And i noticed a HUGE diffrence.. But with adjusting the float level? i have no idea haha im sure if you search there are plenty of topics on how to adjust float levels. The way we always did it as kids on motorcycles is bending the float attachment either up or down. (prolly not the right way of doing it lol) Im sure there is a diffrent way or some sort of adjustment screw on the top of the carb so you dont have to tear the whole carb apart.

If you really want to throw caution to the wind, you can try bending the float bracket a little bit to adjust the float level. It's a trial and error situation though...

Thanks, I see them at advanced for $49. No I need to find the number on my carb, I guess.

I have only been able to find one good method online for setting the idle mixture, and it's not working so well for me.

The process says to turn the mixture screw until I get the highest idle possible (until turning the screw no longer affects the idle), then set the idle speed screw where I want it, and continue this until the mixture screw stops affecting the idle.

I turned the mixture screw (I can do this because somebody took out the plug...so my carb's either been rebuilt or just messed with) until it stopped increasing my idle, but then I had issues with the idle speed screw. It dropped the idle a bit, then stopped. Now matter how far I turn it, it's having no affect on the idle. That's what's supposed to happen with the mixture screw, not the speed screw, so what's up with that? It's doing fine right now, just idling a bit higher than I'd like, but no matter how far I turn the idle speed screw, it won't drop any more.

Also will idle mixture just affect the idle, or how much gas is in the mixture overall?
