Can't remove front license plate 89 4WD truck

89 4WD extended cab truck

Have to replace both license plates. Rear is easy, but I can't get a tool in behind the front plate to hold the nut. Do I have to take the grill out to get there?

Thanks,

James

Yes, I could get them off, but I still can't get at the new nut to tighten it.

On my 89 it was easy but try to pull the bumper out some or pri it oppen a little and put a blok of wood behind it to hold it out for more room.
