buying a new used 91 TOYOTA PICKUP TRUCK
hi NB here.... I'm buying a used 91 4x4 toyota pickup 2.4 4 cylinder engine and it has 227xxx miles on it. truck still runs good with no problem. my question is should replace the head gasket and TC right away? also what else? Oh, also the check engine light is on the guy said it's the o2 sensor. thanks

Why would you need to replace the HG? If the timing chain has been replaced in the last 150K miles, you're good to go, unless of course it was replaced 150K miles ago.... Also, the timing chain guides are what kills most of these 22res. They either need to be replaced with new plastic ones or metal backed guides, which, from my understanding, should last the entirety of the engine.

There's a gray square connector in the engine bay, I believe beside the fuse box, above the battery. Open it up, and stick a paperclip, or small wire between E1 and TE1. Then turn the car on (don't start it), and count the flashes on the CEL.
