I have a 1998 toyota tacoma. It is lifted 3 inches with 33's. I will be adding a front bumper in the next month or so with winch and two sets of lights. I have noticed issues with my brakes. The pads are wearing out. Would it be worth the tundra brake upgrade or just go with slotted/drilled rotors and new ceramic pads? The tundra option is a little more money and I am having a hard time finding calipers. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks,

I just bought reman calipers from Autozone. Be careful that you get the right pads if you go that route though, I had a little trouble with the 231mm vs 199mm.

 

I'm assuming you DO have 16" wheels right?

 

What's wrong with just getting new pads for a total cost of $40?

 

if you are going through pads too quickly would definitely suggest trying ceramic but if that does not work well enough then the tundra upgrade is inevitable!!
if you are running 15" rims you will either need to modify the calipers or get 16" rims~

 

Hawk LTS are amazing. Highly recommended. Best pad out there for these vehicles.

Avoid any sort of rotor with holes or slots. They're all junk and decrease the effectiveness and longevity of your brakes.

Tundra brakes are great if your calipers are shot, you have 15" wheel brakes, tow or drive in the mountains a lot, or if your vehicle is ~500lbs or more than stock curb weight. If not, they're a waste of money.

 

Thanks for the suggestions. I was thinking tundra upgrade for all the added weight. I have the 16 inch rims they are actually 4 runner rims powder coated black. I'm sure I could clear the 199 calipers just fine. I live in the mountains. I think tundra upgrade would be the route to go its just more $$. Here is a pic of my truck...

in the mountains if you do any hauling I would definitely recommend it!!

 

I didnt know that if you have the 15'' rims it is harder to do the tundra brake upgrade? How much harder is it to make it work? Where is the link for the upgrade?

 

the calipers will hit the rim either you get bigger rims or you grind carefully the caliper to fit!!
