BRAKES! Master Cylinder?

I usually never have brake trouble and when I do, I fix it and move on.

I have an '89 SR5 and when I push the brake it goes to the floor! If I pump them I get a little (mostly rear) brakes but it sure aint good!

Here's where it gets aggravating..... I have replaced the M/C twice and I'm still getting air out of the rear brake lines and still the peddle goes to the floor unless I pump them.
Now I have replaced the front calipers & pads, as well as the rear shoes with the complete spring kit. Rear wheel cylinders are working well with no leaks.

Has anyone purchased more than one (like two or more) bad part on the same job? I just used up my 6th quart of brake juice and I'm close to parting this @%&*)*^% out.

Oh and I have had 4 different mechanics tell me, bleed the M/C while it's in the vehicle.

How about some straight dope from the yota-techies, please???

I always bench bleed my master cylinders. Do you know were the fluid is leaking? Make sure its not leaking into the Brake booster.

Also I had been given the wrong master once for a delux model (91 hilux) when I didnt have one and the peddle throw on the delux was more so it leaked out the back in to the booster.

hope this helps

dont replace the master without replacing the slave. If one is defective and the other is replaced, the defective one will cause the new one to defect as well.
Try replacing the MC and the SC at the same time.

we had the same problem on a buddys truck the rear mains where full of gunk that would not bleed out we replaced them and he had brakes back also when I had the rear mains off I had him give it a few pumps to flush out the lines then installed the rear mains.
it sucked we bleed out the system 3 times before replacing the rears.

That is the strange part, there are no leaks!
Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'm going to play with it again Saturday and see what I can do with it.

Hope you all dont mind if I hop in here with a similar problem. Going down a big hill the other day, had very little brakes, got to the bottom and I could smell something was hot. Took it to the shop, and he said the brakes were fine. He could not find any problem at all. He suggested that the master could be leaking through, and suggested that I pump them if it happens again. Just curious if this sounds familiar at all, and what you did to fix it. Guessing to pull the MC, but dont want to do it if it wont help. That was my Mech's opinion also.

Not sure if it'll help but-the same thing happened to me and it was the rear wheel cylinder on the passenger side.
