BOLTing on a receiver

BOLTing on a receiver
I bought a receiver for my 91 toyota 4 runner and it has only 4 half inch blots that blot it on is that going to be enough or should i get it welded on to... and the wiring from the truck to i just tap into one of the lights on the back.... The other thing i was woundering the hitch is stuck in the receiver and it is bent at the end so i need a new one but what i was thinking of is tying the hitch to a big tree and try to pull it out that way do you think that would work.... thank you......

4 bolts should be enough to hold it, considering you can only pull ex. amount of wight. if you were to worry about the bolts holding it on, you should also worry about the receiver being strong enough to pull what you want to pull.
and tying it to a tree would be a good idea BUT when the hitch comes off, it can be a high speed projectile aimed the the 4runner, so i'd say if you do that use a short short rope or chain, but theres still a huge margin for damage. and remeber once you get it out, it may make the reciver hole itself oblong, so cutting the BACK of the hitch off (where its bent) might be a better place to start

oh, forgot to mention about the wiring....i forget at this moment but if you look up 4 wire trailer harness they should give you a color code.
ones for parking lights, ones for turn signals, ones for brakes, and the other's a ground. just figure out wich wire is wich, and then splice the correct wire into the turn signal wire, parking light wire etc. i spliced my harness into the drivers side tail light, but either will work...
and make sure you tuck it in good, i was actually backing up one day and i ran the harness over (it was dragging on the ground) and it ripped out, and now the wiring for my tail light needs some repair

For wiring I got an adapter that just plugs into the existing wiring harness, all you do is unplug the tail lights, and plug it in. Totally worth the money in my opinion, not so much because it's a difficult job (it's not) but then you don't disturb the factory connectors and if you ever need to replace it then it's a lot simpler. I also used the magnetic bracket to keep the wiring out of the way when I'm not towing.

Check your local napa
Napa sells a wiring adapter that plugs into the tail lights as well. I think around 50 clams. Years ago I spliced into the factory wires before they had this kit. My splice jobs would not hold up and I would have to redo them. Uhh, Gee Officer, the trailer lights worked last year?!? I recently soldered and heat shrunk the hack job I did on the factory wires after installing the napa kit.
Wish I had done the kit in the first place.
