Body Swap?
I love my runner, and want to keep it for the life of it. I was wondering, way down the road, switch the body of my 4runner to like an old range rover or an old series land rover? I love rovers, but they are expensive to keep running. SO i thought combine the two into a Frankenstein vehicle.
I know basically have to fab all new body mounts for the new body. Do a bunch of new wiring, and some fabbing of the body.
If it was an old series land rover it would be much simpler, just basically pull all the old wiring and use the same instrument panel out of the runner.
With an old range rover or discovery, I would have to deal with alot more electronics. Or i wonder if it is possible to use all the old rover wiring, but use the computer out of the 4runner to run the engine. If it was a discovery i would have to deal with air bags, or just disengage them.
One problem with any of them is the wheel base, 4runner is like 105 something, and rovers are around 100. I figure i can just cut the fenders to make them larger to make up for the inches.
The only electronics i would want in the new body is heater, radio, wipers, windows, locks, and maybe cruise control.

Uh, yeah, my experience with Land Rovers/Range Rovers has been the opposite of what you want to do. I've found that the frame on the Rover's are quite strong, and are usually the last thing left in working order( well the motor keeps going, and so do the 4X4 components) but everything else goes to crap with the Rovers. Keep your yota ALL Toyota.

Nice swap. Were all the body mounts the same? I was playing around with the idea of an old (60-70) series 2 or 3 rover body with defender grill and fenders onto the runner i got now. Those old things practically have no electronics, just like turn signals and heater. I figure i can gut the ecu and some of wiring out of my rig and just create my own for the rest.
