When i do hit trails its because i got the bikes packed or am going camping. I would like to build a baja brush guard for it. I built one for my s10 i had a while back and it looked awesome

usually for camping we take my mom's (f250 quad cab) or dads (Explorer) trucks (depending on who i go with), more space for the family to go. i wanna take my truck on a camping/wheeling trip but with school and transmission trouble i haven't got around to it

don't have to loosen the cam bolts, i didn't. as for torque specs heres all of them so you have it all covered (all measured in foot pounds, small numbers convert to inch pounds)

intake manifold bolts/nuts.......14
exhaust manifold bolts/nuts....33
camshaft bearing cap bolts.....14
cylinder head bolts................58
camshaft sprocket bolt..........58
crankshaft pulley bolt............116
timing cover bolts -8mm ...9 -10mm...29
oil pan bolts.........................9
oil pump mounting bolts (a) top bolt, apply sealer to the end..18 (b) 2 long..14 (c) 2 bottom short..9

good luck!

Head bolts are torqued to 58 ft/lbs tq in 3 passes. It has been recommended to torque them to 60-64, though. I did 60 both when I replaced the HG and after rebuilding the engine in my 4Runner.

Torque sequence:
10 4 2 5 7

8 6 1 3 9

damn that sounds fun haha wish the gun laws weren't so tight here in cali, you can bring them camping but shooting "unnecessary" is "dangerous"

summer usually I have to work, and right now being full time student I gotta wait for my week off then we're hitting the lake for a couple days. my boyfriend and his family have race boats (1000+ horse power) so that'll be fun haha

ok. new questions. I put the new timing gear and chain on, water pump is in. My question is do i use rvt when i install the head gasket? Also, i used a lil rvt on the timing cover to "keep the gasket from falling out" when i was putting it all back together. Is that Ok? Other than that i just need to scrape gaskets off the head and put her back together

I use RTV in place of the timing cover gasket. Just use the gasket(s) to know where to put the RTV. Then, while putting the head back on, put a dab of RTV at each corner ( supposed to be Toyota BLACK, but any high-temp stuff will be fine)

Its to help keep the seal between the two. On the first HG I ever did, I put RTV around the top of the timing cover where the head mates to it and a dab at each rear corner. Then the second one I did dabs at all 4 corners and one on each side in the middle (someone else's vehicle). While rebuilding my own 22re, I just did 4 dabs at each corner. 5K miles and no leaks.

to get carbon off soak in coolant, and use a sponge to try and scrape it off. or buy carbon removing chemicals. as for cleaning it doesn't have to be perfect, a little within the dome won't hurt it as long as the valves can seal properly and the spark plug wont get dirty.

Other than that just make sure the base of the block and head are clean for the gasket

So there was an AC pump installed at one point and it doesnt work. theres plumbing leading to inside the cab. i already gutted the pump from the engine bay. Can i remove the ac radiator and plumbing or should i just leave that stuff in there. Honestly i want it out. Or is the thin radiator in front of the main an oil cooler?
