Blown head gasket

Hello I have a 96 extra cab t100 3.4 4x4, 304xxx miles and the head gasket went out last night. I have coolant dripping out of my exhaust now, and a good steady stream of white smoke. I need to be able to drop the kids off and get to work, so I help a little help deciding which route to go.

Do I just change out the head gaskets in the driveway or do I get a used motor and put that in there, what do you guy think I should do?

Me and my wiife can work out transportation for a little but I need my truck back asap

I'd go with a used lower mileage engine

. Especially if you could get even as short as a 30 day warrantee on the new engine.

It'd give you a chance of satisfaction.

304 thousand is substantial mileage to do nothing but a gasket job .Fact is, you cannot know for sure that you don't have a cracked head, or heads that require resurfacing or other valve work.

Others might certainly disagree. Just my .02

I picked up an engine out of a 01 4Runner with a smashed back end and a gasket set to freshen it up a little. I just did the timing belt and water pump on my old engine 6000-9000 miles ago, do you think I could reuse that without issues?
