Blew a spark plug of the engine

So here is the story I was driving my 2001 Toyota Tacoma and all of the sudden the spark plug in cylinder number4 blew up the it was a loud noise
and the truck just stop, could not get it to run again, two questions: I have try to start it up but it will crank but not start, did the engine blew up ? next question is is any place where i can see how to remove the cylinder head to fix the thread in the cylinder that blew u? I have no experience in such a big job. I love this truck and would like to save it. HELP .

I would run a compression test. If numbers are low on other cylinders, that would let you know if you have major damage inside the engine. If it blew the plug out of the head, you probably wont be able to get a good seal on number 4 to find out its condition. I would take a metal rod or a wooden dowel and just kind of feel the top of the piston and see if there are any holes in it. That wont tell everything but will be a start to see if something went wrong in a bad way.

Doesn't the Tacoma come with the V6 or the 4 cylinder? I am not sure which motor you have. As I understand it, all extended cabs come with the 3.4 and others can have a 2.7, but I could be wrong on that, I don't know the Tacoma to well.

The fact it still turns over is a good sign

did the spark plug just vibrate loose and was just pushed out by the compression??

Is the Mil on?? Have you pulled the code or codes??

If this is the 3.4 did the timing belt break??
