best engine in your opinion?

Right now in my 91 pickup i have the 3VZ. Needless to say i havent quite heard good things about it. Sense i was about to do an rebuild wanted to know if anyone had a better choice of engine i could rather easily swap out instead (keeping the same tranny etc.) thanks or any help!!

7mgte with 6speed 2jzgte trans or a good rebuild and good headers,k&n cold air,trd came gaskit match everything. Till roast the tires for days oh and a good exhast system nothing over 2.5

But, that setup has trouble for slow-moving offroad applications. The M and J series engines have peak torque near the top of the engine.
Not to mention the insane amount of fabrication an electrical work needed to make this happpen.

The 5Vz-E is the best bet for any kind of swap-in solution. From what I've heard, it's a fairly simple install as many of the electrical bits are the same between early 5Vz and late 3Vz. I also suspect the motor mounts are similar.

If you play your cards right, a 5Vz swap is about the same price as rebuilding and optimizing the 3Vz.

I had a 93 4runner with a 3.0 and a auto. I think a 4.3 chevy with tbi is the cheapest way to go and the 4.3 is a good motor I myself am not a big fan of the 3.4 yes it makes more power but the 4.3 is proven 1950's techonlgy that works. Your 3.0 will run like s**t for a long time before it blows. Now for the best engine 1967 375 hp 396 chevy thats what all the gray beards tell me lol!

agree with the 4.3 chevy port the heads shave the heads and zero deck the block. go to ebay find 6 good two valve relief pistins and get some 350 full roller rockers.

22r with 20r heads, trd supercharged 3.4 V6. old school reliability and new school power. Only thing is deciding which truck to get

would the rebuild like that seem to make any difference? I do already have the cold air intake but i have no idea how good the rest of the engine is

Best engine for your application IMO is the 3.4. Truck powerband an fits like it came in there if done right. Don't waste money on the 3.0 mods gains will be minimal, however you can get decent money for a used, running 3.slo which can be used to recover from the 3.4 swap..

What is it you want in the way of an engine??

That pretty much should give you an idea .

I like the 3.4 so much I decided not to do a 7MGTE swap that I have all the parts for.

I would so enjoy to go back to a simple time without all this air pollution goodies . Engine electronics hah!

You wanted to swap in most any engine a few wires to hook up you were good to go.

Wow the 375 hp 396 now that brings back memories

That's not a rebuild, it's a specific engine type.
The M series engines were inline-6 Celica engines back in the days before the world went V6 crazy. They were very good motors for their intended purpose, and I think Corax here had a first-gen 4runner with a 7MG-E and really likes it.

Bear in mind that it does take alot of work to do any swap. When the cards are down, it's best to consider not the overall price of any build, but how difficult it will be. You can do a really crappy swap on the cheap with very little effort, and regret it all day.
Going to a 5Vz from a 3Vz will be the least difficult in terms of electronics, fabrication and getting your rig past the smog people.

if i had the choice i would put a 1fe out of an 80 series land cruiser in it with a manual trans just because the torque is outrageous and it is really reliable.

the question really does depend alot on you're fabrication skills, knowledge of wiring, and intended use of the truck.

I think VW tdi swaps are awesome, diesel is a definate plus. but if you're wanting to keep it toyota, the 1uz is awesome, a 1/2jzgte is super fun, and the 7m is along the same lines.

like i said, depends what you want to get out of it.

mostly i would like to anyway get more power out of it, and wiring wont be a problem, i would like one that i could just easily swap in a save a tad amount of time (and money) that way i dont have to drive my sisters car around too long haha this truck is both my daily driver and my toy!

if you're going quick and easy, definately do the 3.4 swap. you can even add a supercharger to it if you want.

search 3.4 or 5vze, and find more information than you'll know what to do with.

If you've a 3.0, a 3.4 is probably the fastest, easiest, and cheapest of all swaps.

The 3.4 is the better motor of the two.

If you have a 3.0 and are looking to swap to another, the 3.4 is by far the easiest, most reliable and dependable and most economical if you are going to waste money on rebuilding the 3.0

so i have finally got the engine pulled and almost completely torn down! problem is i cant get this pulley off from the timing belt! Name:  photo-10.jpg
