Auto Shift handle removal

figured i'd put this in the newb section

how do i remove the auto tranny shifter handle on my 87 4runner, i got the 2 screws out and it comes off the shifter, but the 2 wires for the OD button are still connected, i can get the top button out, and the OD button out of the handle but have no idea on how to get the OD button out of the handle to swap for another handle

i'm changing over my gray interior to brown/tan, and i'm changing my shifters. The tranny shifter has a OD button on the side. I can get the handle off the base via the 2 screws. But it is still i can not completely remove it due to the wiring for the OD button. My question is how do i get that button out of the shifter handle to take it completely off?

** i do know that the button assembly pops out of the handle, but there is no "plug" to take off it is hard wired and looks factory

best pic i have and this is from my old 90 4runner but the shifters are the same, i'll take some better pics of it tomorrow when it stops raining like a mother lol
