Question ATS Location

Could someone take a picture and point out where the heck the Air Temperature Sensor is on a 98 4Runner with a 3.4L. I just purchased a chip that attaches to this sensor but am not sure exactly where it is located. Is the ATS the same thing as a IAT sensor? I found something close coming out of the unit connecting to the airbox and the MAF sensor but not sure if its the right thing.

Thanks,

Derik S.

IAT = Intake Air temperature sensor, so that's probably it. You realize that 'chip' you bought is just a resistor that changes the resistance of the IAT and makes the computer think the air is colder than it actually is. A 50c resistor from Radio Shack will do the same thing.

Question Is using the chip a bad idea

Well it sounds like you know exactly what i am talking about. Is this chip a bad idea? Will it hurt the vehicle by sending wrong confusing the computer? So where exactly is the wires that go to this sensor? I am still not quiet sure where the sensor is located.

Thanks for the help,

Derik

I'm not sure where it is on a 98, they're usually in the air filter box somewhere. And no it won't do any harm, by making the computer think the air is colder it simply injects more fuel to compensate. More fuel = more power.
