99 4Runner sr5 4wd completely stock with tiny tires(235/75/15, family owns tire store so im fixing to replace with 31x10.5x15).....anyways heres the real question: if i want to lift it up just a few inches 2.5 to 3" can i just replace coils or do i have to get shocks and whole expensive kit? *(this may seem stupid but id appreciate a simple straight answer)

 

I have a 2.5" suspension lift and didn't have to replace anything. Anything above 3" you have to do some mods. I have a Daystar kit since I don't off road hardly so it was a good inexpensive street kit. Basically poly spacers for front and rear. If you go with 2.5-3" lift, throw some 285/75/16's or if staying with 15" rims, go with some 33's. They'll fit. OME and http://www.wabfab.org/96024Runner/96...erliftkits.htm make good kits.

I run the old man emu 3" coils from toytec. New shocks, diff. drop, and i'm running 31X10.5X15 bfg a/t's. I know i can fit 33's if i want to down the line wich is a plus. Never had any experience with blocks or spacers.

Yep...that's all ya need. Then get re-aligned...

 

Its such a pain to do the front coils that you should change the struts while you have them off. If you don't you'll have to do whole job over again when you want to change the struts. As for the back you can do them any time.

 

I would search, this has been covered 1000 times. I say go with tokico trekmasters and OME 881 and OME 890 springs.

 

I went with OME 882 coils and N91SC shocks up front and Land Cruiser coils with Rancho RS5000 series shocks in the rear (soon to be replaced with OME). The only thing I added was a 1" diff drop. I'm sitting at 3" of lift up front and 3.75" in the rear. Add another 1"+ to those figures when you consider the larger 285's. BTW, I'm running 285's with very minor trimming.
