accessing dash bulbs?

92 v6 4runner 4x4 manual trans

I took my truck into the smog shop today to get it over with and the thing failed before the test even started.

The lights in my dash are all offset to the right one place (ect pwr lights up instead of check engine and check engine lights up instead of cruise control).

The smog tech said that they cant do anything until the check engine light glows with the key in the "on" position. now I'm left with the options of finding somewhere to over look this minor detail or fixing the problem (preferred).

My question is, Is there a shortcut to accessing said bulbs to shift them over one place without removing the whole dash? Its more a matter of time than difficulty. Thanks.

I really don't know, I've only had the thing for maybe 2 months... I was thinking of looking for a cut wire under the dash that had been spliced together incorrectly, but I'm guessing its all wishful thinking. I want to break it down, but I'm expecting a baby anyday now and dont want to be caught with my pants down.

Yeah, I know in reality its not that big of a deal, its just the idea of tearing it down for something soooooo dumb. In my manual, it says the steering wheel has to be removed for the task, is there a way around that? I would like to avoid that if possible.

Well, apparently there was a short somewhere because now everything is back in order and my keyless entry is now accompanied by an alarm I didn't know that i had. Still can't decide if it were a waste of time or a lucky find. Plus side, dash removal not so hard.
