Question 96 4Runner - swapping rear diffs?

will a 4:11 from an older toyota work in place of the stock 4:10 without blowin up my transfer case when i put it in 4x4

No it might not. Depends on what year is "older" as it could be a 2WD.

Listen to wabbit, Also, check the number of bolts on both your diff and the donor diff. Both the current diff and donor diff should have 10 bolts.

no its not 2wd its from an older front end from an old pick up

if you are swapping a 4 Cyl into a 6 Cyl, not a great idea...you are losing 2 spider gears.
v-6 Differential is considerably stronger to put up with the 3.4...

you will be fine with the gear ratios being 4.10 and 4.11 they are the same gears just a rounding deal with the numbers and 1/100 of a difference in ratio can be had with a little more worn tires on the back, so i wouldnt worry about it, and i bet if you count the teeth the same number will be had from both diffs

well the 4:11 is 9 on the spider and 37 on the crown gear while the 4:10 has 10 on the spider and 41 on the crown
