95 4runner fuel economy
I am new to the 4runner community and I have just bought a 95 4runner with the 3.0l engine and a 5speed manual. What is the best way to make this engine get more MPG. It is getting around 15-17 right now depending on how i drive it. Is there any chips/programmers that I can purchase to help the MPG? Are there any quick bolt-on's I can do?
thank you

Make sure that it has a good tune-up with real Japanese parts, and don't drive it faster than 60-65 mph.
What gear and tire size tdo you have??
I fueled my '95 today @ 220miles and11.29 gal. of 87 octane 10% ethanol fuel for 19.48 miles per gallon
90% hiway and 10% stop and go.
Most people get less mpg, but these 3vz-e trucks will get decent mpg if everything is right.
If I run 75-80 mph, my mileage will drop to 17.5.
There are no mpg mods that I know that are worth doing.

What do you mean by a tune up with Japanese parts? Also what are the best spark plugs to run? From what I can tell everything in the engine bay is stock except for the main changes (spark plugs, air filter, spark plug wire, etc.)
I am running 31x10.5-15's and just stock gearing, I haven't had time to look at the tag on the pumpkin yet. Also I drive about 50/50 city to highway driving.

Japanese parts are Japanese parts, Chinese parts are not.
dist cap, rotor, plug wires ect..............
Ngk or Denso spark plugs, plain resistor plugs, not platinum or irridium.
No tag on punkin. Tranny and gear codes on door plate.
Most guys are happy to get 15-17mpg from a 3.slo, but you might do a little better if you tune the truck, and your driving style a bit.

Weight strip every ounce of unneeded weight .
Tires keep them aired up on the high side .
Wind can really cause fuel mileage to drop that is why you see a big decrease in fuel mileage as speed increases
I have seen experiments where the bottom side was stream lined to increase mileage .
I don`t have a 3.0 but a 3.4 I am quite happy with the 12 to 14 mpg I get when I check things
