95 4Runner 2nd Gen mod ideas

I just got a 95' 4runner very recently for my first car. I really want to make this into an off-roader and I have a generally good idea of what I want to do with it. I've already bought 31.5'' BFGs and I'm installing them very soon and I'm sure they will fit without any kind of lift.

Any other ideas of mods to do to my runner? I'm looking for tips to make it look better and cheap performance mods/tips.

Theres lots you can do.

You could've gone with 33x10.50 BFG tires ( they fit stock )
Pull off the running boards.
Order a rear lift and shocks to fix the sag.
front and rear bumpers.
front and rear lockers
front and rear gears.

yeah but the 31.5s are the only ones I can afford now so i might as well, i might try to take the wheels and sand them and paint them but i'm not sure it would look very good.

one of the first things im going to do is try to order some 2 in. coil spacers for the back end

I might try to get a winch bumper but I can't find anywhere cheap, or at least a roof rack or something of the sort. Do you know where I could find some rear tail light guards?

depending on your budget, what you want to do with it, and how deep you want to get into it really determines what you should do with it. I wouldn't worry about the tail lights, if your just looking to have a mall crawler then yes...you could go that route. Get the attitude right first and get rid of that sag, then maybe bumpers for looks or lockers for performance.

mods

Fix butt sag(new or used coils) then sliders, then Aussie locker in front with manual hubs. Man it starts to add up quick doesn't it. The good news is you can find great deals on here if your persistent. Good luck!

X2^ IT all depends on how much you want to spend and what exactly you want to do with your rig. Also don't expect this thing to be transformed overnight, most of us have spent years perfecting our rigs. They are never done. I have spent almost 2 years on mine and its still not where I want it to be. Just be patient. And Welcome to Yotatech!

Fix the rear sag.

Roof racks kill gas mileage. Just so you know

Will the roof rack really mess up fuel mileage in the city?

Coil spacers was my first mod. Memorys god these things look like soccer mobiles when stock. If you play around the rocks the rear bumper is gonna be the first casualty.

You can have alot of fun open/open on 31's just make shure you never wheel alone and keep the rig level.
Nice clean base to start this addiction.

Edit: On the coil spacers you might spend as much or close to a new set of coils so shop around. On the street the stock rate is fine but once loaded or fire roading i wish i had heavier rate coils.

If you are going to buy coil spacers you should look into cruiser coils/new shocks instead. Then as money allows look into BJ spacers/new shocks for the front.

Here is a thread, and there are boat loads more...

It's been a little while but I remember buying moog cargo coils for my 2nd gen. Super cheap, fixed the sag and added more load capability than stock. I ran 31s with this setup and it was great. You definitely do not need lift with 31s. Look them up! Plus you can get them in without spring compressors, which I find a little scary.
