325,000 Miles - NO Smoke with Minimal Oil Consumption

Truck starts right-up (but NO Fast Idle Until Warm) rough idle. Idle is set above 1,000 to keep running. I shift (Automatic) manually to get up to speed. Has No power until 15 MPH, then Runs Strong quickly as I then shift to 2nd, then to 3rd (D) & runs great up to freeway speed. No "Check Engine" lights are on. Their is also a quick "Ping" upon take-off (only).

I just bought vehicle like this - thinking it's a simple fix ?

Have you checked the timing on this rig yet? Pinging tells me it may be too far advanced. When doing a timing check make sure you follow the instructions for proper settings.
