93 2wd swap for 4wd
I have a 1993 toy pickup 2wd. It has the 22re and a 5 spd tranny about 186k. I mostly use my truck for commuting but i also like to offroad so i would like a 4wd. Also i would like to have more room so an xtra cab would be nice. I have a couple of possible donor trucks that i'm considering swaping parts from my truck to.
1. 1991 xtra cab 4wd. v6 5spd 183K. Rolled so cab needs to be replaced. $1000
2. 1993 xtra cab 4wd. Blown motor and body is rough. Not sure what engine or tranny. $500.
What are your thoughts on what would be the more cost effective or better choice assuming both have v6 and 5spd. Would i be better off with the 22re or the 3vze? If the 22re would the motor fit the tranny and componentry? Thanks!

I don't do any serious off roading yet... Mainly just kinda rally race roads. But have taken it in some wheeling and mud and such. Need 4X4 for what i really want to do. Play in the mud and climb mountain hills!!!

A lot of work ahead, but best bet would be the same engine so that you can swap the tranny and t-case from the 4WD into your 2WD. The V6 5-speed will not fit the 22RE engine without a special bell housing.

So if the truck with the blown motor doesn't have the 22re in it i wouldn't have the neccesary equipment to do the swap correct? Unless i got a bell housing or new tranny and transfer case to match the motor.
