Step 1: Put key in tail gate door lock.
Step 2: Turn counter clock wise to roll window down.
Step 3: Un lock the small lock on the inside of door.
Step 4: Grasp handle of tailgate.
Step 5: Pull handle.
Step 6: Open tail gate.
Step 7: Leave vehicle and stand in busy street.

you cant open the tailgate from outside. You have to reach in and use the inner handle to open the tailgate.

That's the handle I was talking about. I wonder if he knows you can't open it with the window up?

Fix the window then go from there.

With the window not working 4runners are a pain.

I knew that was what you meant. I just wanted him to be aware that there is no way to open the tailgate from the outside. Fixing the windown would be the first step as wyoming 9 said. This will make your life a lot easier if you plan to use the back to haul anything at all.

Pretty much. There's a relay in that system that likes to take a dump too. I'd recommend taking yours all apart while it still works and clean all the mechanisms and lube it all up real well. I do that in my 94 once a year and it still works really well. You'd be amazed how much dust and crap accumlates inside the tailgate.

Now step #7. Is he supposed to keep the keys with him or leave them in the tailgate? JK. Thats pretty much it.

Thats a great suggestion UK - yeah, it's my only ride, so i'd prefer that it doesnt crap out on me ... i doubt that the Orig.Owner did any of that work; gotta take care of the rear pass. windows too, same deal, super slow roll up, semi-slow roll down (terrible w/ the motor off)
