Hey guys, I am a newbie. Always wanted to have a toyota 4x4 pick up. Saw one last week but it need a new Transmission.
Anyone has any info or link to step by step tranny switch for these trucks?
It is 5 speed manual, 4x4.
I have replaced motors and trannys on mostly honda civics as a hobby, Little 4 cylinders, but this is a truck and a V6.
So if it's not too complicated I would go ahead and get this truck and do the replacement myself rather then taking it to a shop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

 

depending on the cost of the truck it sounds like a good deal... swapping the 5 speed in and out is pretty straight forward. unbolt the starter, unbolt the bellhousing from the block, and disconnect the cross member. you should be able to find good 5sp trannys on CL for under 300 bucks.

Yes it is a good deal and if I get the Transmission replaced it will last me a long time, since I will only be using it as a work truck around the house.
My guess would be that I can also use a tranny off of a 4runner of the same year.
