89-94 2WD to 4WD Pickup/4Runner suspension compatability?

Hey All,

I have spent some time searching the fourms but have yet to find the answer to my question.

I have a 1993 2WD Toyota Pickup that needs new suspension. I'll bet it has dropped about 2 inches since it was first rested on its springs and its time for a bit of a lift.

I called around to some local pick 'n pull junk yards today and found a few with some 4x4 4Runners and 4x4 Pickups four just over $300 for both the front and rear suspension... half the price of the cheapest lift kit i could find for the 2WD

I was thinking that maybe the suspension off of a 89-94 4x4 Pickup or 4Runner would probably fit the bill for me as far as height, but im unsure it it is even compatable with the 2wd models. Does anyone know?

If I did go that route, would there be any additional parts i would need?

Anyhow, if you know or know where i should go look to get my question answered please let me know.

Thanks!

I don't know to much about it, well anything really, but you might run into the same problem with the used equipment. It might not be right away either. If it sags back down in a year or two you will regret not just buying a lift.
I have the same problem with my 95 runner, the poor thing was lookin like it was takin a squat to take a pee. I just got the cheap 2" bolt a lift things from advance to keep me from shaking my head every time I go to get in it. I will just put away what I can untill I can lift it.

None of the 4wd stuff will fit on the 2wd truck, they use different suspension set ups all together. If you wanted to rip everything off yours and spend 3 times what the truck is worth to meld the 4wd stuff on it could be done, but you would end up with a truck that has a weaker frame, rear axle and be very unhappy. Just sell the truck and buy a 4wd truck, you would be much happier and have less money in the long run. Hope that helps.

that's pretty much accurate. I mean, you could take the leaf springs and make em work, heck you could take any leaf and make it work. but nothing is gunna be direct bolt on. cept maybe the shocks? i don't think you'd want old shocks from a junkyard though, not worth the hassle. 4x4s have the spring mounted above the axle, yours is mounted below. to gain lift in the rear you could flip that, but i wouldn't recommend it. if you're looking to go back to stock height, take your leafs out and find a place to re-arch em for you. usually runs around 80 bucks. i put some coil springs in the rear of my truck a la the zuk coil mod, works great and rides nice. as far as i know nothing in the front suspension is usable. if you want a 4x4, do what toyman said. if you wanna keep your 2wd, buy a total chaos long travel kit with some deavers in the rear and call it good
