Question 88 to 94 3.0 engine swap

Please guys I'm kind of new at this and I need some help. I have a 94 4X4 pickup W/ standard transmission and a bad 3.0 that I pulled to either rebuild or do a 3.4 swap but I have a chance to get an 88 4runner that has a low milage strong running 3.0. My question is will the 3.0 from the 4runner with an auto tranny fit in the truck and if so what mechanical and electrical parts do I need to swap? Is there anything that I need to be aware of? Thanks any advice and wisdome is greatly appreciated.

Your best bet is probably just to swap long blocks (block, heads, etc) Then transfer over all of your intake, electronics, exhaust manifolds, etc. This way you won't have to deal with all the little differences.

Thanks for the replys and advice, I'm not sure what to do though, I'm into the truck less than $1,000.00 and I can pick the 4runner up for $450.00 and I know I can pull the motor out of the 4runner and part out the rest and at least break even if not even make some money.

Swap the long block. Leave your bypass sensors alone, bolt them back on to the new block. You can even swap in the upper and lower intake. Very straight forward.

I had my 3.0 out in 2 hours from first bolt to sitting on the ground.

You can come pull my 3.0. I'll pay royally for those 2 hours. ; )

No but seriously, how many times have you pulled that engine and was it in a 4x4? I'm contemplating a rebuild vs head gasket job. See my thread here

I live in Alaska.... no such thing as 2 wheel drive trucks.

I've pulled a few

Are you located somewhere warm? I'd be up for another removal.... so long as it's not freezing. I'd pull an engine for free if you were in HI

Hey guys I decided to do the swap, in fact I have already pulled the motor from the 4runner. It was much easier to pull than the motor from thr pickup, of course I took a couple of shortcuts. Instead of tagging and disconnecting all of the sensors and injectors I just pulled the wires from the ECU and fished them through the firewall. I also pulled the vacume module from the fender and looped over the motor. Unbolted the starter, bell housing and motor mounts, hooked up the hoist and the engine slipped forward and out. All in about 4 hours. The only difference in the blocks see are the motor mounts and on the 94 there is a bypass on the water pump to block (don't know what for). I'm going to swap manifolds both intake and exhaust also all sensors and injectors. I'm also going to put in new timing belt, pulleys and water pump. Could anybody give a recomendation to what brand of timing belt, pulleys and water pump I should use? Thanks.

Does the water pump seem to attach to a round part on the driver side of the block?

From: Nashville TN. I can help you if you're close BUT NOBODY CAN HELP YOU IF YOU DON'T FILL YOUR LOCATION IN!
Just take the old engine out and put it beside the new one...

Take enough stuff off both the old one and the new one to where they both look the same, then put all the stuff from the old one ON the new one to make it look like the old one...

Is that straight forward enough for ya?
