87 22r carb re-build ?
howdy, i have recently gotten this 87 pickup 4wd 22r, 5spd. a previous owner took all the emission stuff off. the carb has lots of hoses plugged with screws and what not. the carb needs to be re-built or replaced, can i replace with an older carb that doesn't have all those vac. hoses to begin with? what year did the emission stuff start to appear? thanks anyone.

I think Weber is the way to go if you want to get rid of the vacuum hoses. Not sure what the '87 carb has as far as hoses compared to my '83, but I've definetely got some vacuum hoses. I think if you're really looking to go with no hoses, aftermarket is the only way to go, rather than looking back into the 70's or something for Toyota carbs.

Other than searching (like google) for toyota carb photos or something I'm not sure. I'll bet someone on this site has some, though. Honestly, at least for my truck, the vacuum diagram was really handy. It's not like a wiring diagram which I can't understand. The vacuum diagram was actually easy to read and helped me hook up a bunch of hoses that didn't show up in the photos I took, once I was putting my engine back together. Worth looking into.
