T100s didnt come about until '93 and they never came with the 22re

You must just mean a "truck" or "pick-up" or "hilux" in countries outside the U.S.

The 22re is just a slow, reliable motor. First do a tune-up and all that jazz. If you're running larger tires, regear to accommodate them. Then theres like O/S valves, a performance cam, larger exhaust with freeflows, etc.
A 5mge or 7mge swap is pretty involved. If you want to go with it, I know theres at least one other person who has swapped in the 7mge. Do a search and you shall find

Welcome to YT.
I would say that you should start doing a lot of research. A t-100 is quite a bit bigger than your truck...
Do a compression check to see where you are at on your engine. You can download factory service manuals from the link in my signature. It will have all the procedures and steps you need, or pick up a Haynes or Chilton's manual (though I think they suck.)

If your truck has bigger tires (I just went to 35's with 3.90's on my '81--hills are gonna suck now )
recommended gearing for toyotas generally goes like this for bigger tires (which kill performance when running stock gears and a 4 cyl)
33" tires=4.88 gears
35" Tires=5.29's
4Cyl trucks generally came with 4.10 gears and 225/75 size tires-that is what my '86 4Runner came with when i bought it new.

if after doing some research and you still have the urge to swap something else in there,
check out the engine swap folder and read some more...has anything from swapping a 3.4 toyota, 4.3 chevy up to 350 CI chevy's.

Good luck and have fun...

so ive been reading other swaps and have seen that the 1UZFE is a nice and easy project with plenty of power. they say it bolts right up to a auto trans but i have the 5spd so how difficult is that?
