86 pickup 5 speed tranny sloppy shifter

Hey guys this is my first yota and first 5 speed so im lost. My shifter is very sloppy and doesnt stay within normal confins of shifter boundarys which it makes it very easy to miss a gear lol. Does this need to be rebuilt if so how hard is it to do.

Welcome to YT!

That's a cheap and easy fix. You need this part...

...and the seat listed on the same page wouldn't hurt either. Good luck, and enjoy your Yota.

It all depends what kind of shifter you are used to.Also if it has a tight pattern or wide

It doesn`t hurt to change the shifter bushing and the seat for the cost of the parts.

What maltese said should fix your problem. Somewhere on that site it shows how to install it. If not go to #207 in my build thread and it is there. It a fairly easy fix.

Its definately a tight shift pattern. This is my first stick shift so its been a tough learning experiance lol. I know this question is unrelated but while idling the engine overheats with fan running, get on the road and start moving and it cools. Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong or have a solutution.
