85-89 4runner newb interior questions...
So I've tried searching here and a few other forums, but can't seem to find out whether the interior door panels are universal between 85-89 models. I know the doors themselves are interchangeable, but what about the interior panels themselves? Do they all have the same fastener pattern? I'm upgrading my current non-power doors to power doors, so I'd like to know if I need the power panels for '85(my model) or if any year 85-89 will work. From what I've found the only difference is that the 85's have a different switch type than the 86-89's. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I am on my 6th yota and they have been in years 85 to 89. The only difference I have found is when searching on ebay is the vent window models are different. I have had two 4runners that were both sr5 but neither one of them had vent windows so i have not seen the difference first hand.

Ok, thanks! From researching, I've seen different styles of door panel, i.e., molded arm rests vs. the detachable ones, the square power switches vs. the ones in the arm rest, etc. I don't really care which door panel it is as long as it fits on the door and I can wire it up.

I was looking in to doing the same thing. But I decided against it due to the fact that my DD did not have the power options installed in the factory. So from what I read it might have been a wiring project that took longer than I needed. I know there are some write ups on here that implied that it was easier to do a aftermarket retro kit vs swapping factory doors what have power options. Keep us updated and post lots of pics please

Well, here's an update. I can't find the interior door panels I want, so this mod is on hold. I'm looking for the ones with the molded arm rests, circa '88 I believe, with the power switches in the armrest. Seems like there are grey ones everywhere, not so much for the brown ones. Argh!

After talking to a few people, it doesn't seem like wiring the doors up just like they would've been stock will be that big of a deal. I have all the parts except the aforementioned panels and the kick panel relays which shouldn't be that hard to find. I might even be able to trade for them.
Anywho, to be continued...

Ok, I have a set of the interior door panels I want with the power switches, door lock actuators, window motors, and all the wiring...now I'm trying to figure out how to wire them. Any suggestions? I've read through a buttload of posts talking about power doors, but none of them really address using all OEM stuff. One big issue is how to wire them so that the driver's switch that controls the passenger window can indeed control the passenger window. I've looked at the wiring diagram for '88 power windows. Not much there. I'm wondering if the power window relays have something to do with it? I wasn't going to bother with the stock relays, but if that's the case I might. Does anyone have knowledge of this system and want to throw me a bone?
