83-84 Yota Pickup 2WD 22R Engine Ticking
I'm not sure where to post this, so i am posting it here.
Alright so i was driving back from town the other night in the 1983-84 TOYOTA Pickup i have. It's running on a 22r Engine. 4 CYLINDER. Now i have not had trouble since i have had this truck.
But the other night i started hearing this small ticking noise near to top of the engine. But farther i went, the louder it got. I didn't want to stop since it was 4am and i was about 34 miles from home. But eventually the truck started slowing down, even when i'd press on the gas. I let go off the gas pedal and it shut off.
So i towed it home, and took the cover off the top because i was told it was the rocker arms being lose or something. So as i was checking them and the camshaft, i found 1 rocker that slides back and forth on the little arm thing. But the nut that holds it on, was tight as ever. And i can't get a good look at the camshaft. But each time i start the truck, i hear this tap tap tap tap noise.
Someone have an idea what it could be?

I don't believe it's in the fuel pump. Sound is coming from the top near the rocker arms/ cam shaft and the carb. Plus i am not sure where the pump is located lol! I'm used to having a ford. Let me go outside and get a quick picture of the engine and show where the sound is coming from.

Alright the picture above has a red circle from where it sounds like the noise is coming from.

your fuel pump is the little gold thing in the front left side of ur valve cover in the pic id say check there first...since ur losing power it cant be the normal tick that develops on most r and re motors if it aint the pump you may want to check out your timing chain might have a broken slider...drain ur oil and see if theyrs sig metal shavings...the fact that itshut off when you let out of the gas makes me worried tho if the oil you drain out comes out with a silvery color we have a problem u may have spun a rod bering in which case it would sound like its comming from the valve cover ...will it idle when you start it? and does the tap start right away? and does it increase when throttle is applied?

im gonna say check the fuel pump then there is still the possibility of the rod bering since u lost power and it shut off may have a tweaked valve ...i thought forsure the oil woulda at least had a slight metalic color check ur pump an well go frm there

Alright well i have a video of the sound.
It's black, but thats because its 1am and the hood light don't work lol. But that tick is a distinctive one. So it won't be hard to hear.
And how would i check the fuel pump? I'll also get a actual visual video tomorrow. But all i can get now is the sound.

ok its def not your pump sounds more like ur piston slapping a valve in the firstone but the second sounds like arod either way dont start it again if possible...i can walk you throug the valve adjustment tomorro and see if that helps if not ur gonna be droppin the oilpan
