82 L45 4 speed transmission issues
All gears worked upon removal. I resealed the shifter seals, the main front seal, and the output seals on the transfer case. Upon install 1st gear and reverse gear will not engage. Its like they don't exist. they don't even go in and pop out. but 2,3,4 work and shift beautiful. T-case is fine too. I was reading in Haynes manual that the shifter forks must be aligned in the neutral position upon reassembly. I'm not sure if i did that, didn't really move them, just opened to reseal. I know marlin crawler has a shifter bushing and cap that I'm going to try but i feel like i should be able to at least shove it in gear. I also replaced the flywheel and clutch throw out bearing. Any ideas? This the only thing holding me from wheelin!!!! Im going crazy!!

Problem solved. So everyone knows for future reference if you take off the shifter fork housing you must make sure that not only the forks line up with the slots to move the gears, but on the bottom right hand corner there is a lever that must be aligned with the the 3rd and smallest fork. The fork sits on the back right on the side of another main fork. This lever allows you to control 1st and reverse. if you can not shift all gears when you put it together you have it in incorrect! the way i did it was put the shifter into the reverse gear upon install therefore the fork stuck out a little and was able to grab the lever. Haynes manual said to put it in the manual position upon install but i tried a thousand times and it doesn't grab the lever. Hope this helps!
