4x4 questions..
hey,
i recently picked up a 90 4.0 auto 4x4. I read in the manual that you should drive in 4wd to keep the tcase fresh. When I put it in 4h it feels like its binding. And when i put it back to 2h,theres a loud "thump"...is this normal? what should i check?
thanks
pj

4.0? You got a Land Cruiser?
If it isn't, then DONT DRIVE ON DRY PAVEMENT IN 4WD!! There is no center differential so the front and rear driveshafts are forced to turn at the same speed, but can't because slip required on dry pavement. So you get binding. It is normal for this condition. IIRC, the manual calls for driving at least 16 miles every month with the hubs locked for manual hub equipped rigs. I dont think there needs to be any driving requirements for ADD equipped rigs as the t-case should always be turning
